Equal marriage in the Riviera Maya state

Riviera Maya is the tourist district that labels one of the most beautiful parts of the Mexican Caribbean: which goes from Isla Blanca to Punta Allen, in the state of Quintana Roo.

In this state, there was never a legal prohibition of gay marriage. As the Civil Code doesn’t have exclusive definitions for heterosexual couples, it was never nessacery to modify the local laws nor the filing of constitutional injunctions.

Despite some objections at the beginning, in 2011 the first gay couple got their marriage certificates there, and today it is accepted in practically the entire state.

Did you know that there are some Mexican states that don’t permit gay marriage?
